Filter Search Results in Communities

Give your community and portal users the opportunity to refine their searches. Users in a community can now filter their search results for the following objects: accounts, knowledge articles, cases, contacts, dashboards, files, leads, opportunities, people, and tasks.

Where: This feature is available in Lightning communities, accessed through Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic, and is available in Essentials, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions.

Note

Note

Filtering on knowledge articles is a beta feature. As a beta feature, filtering on knowledge articles is a preview and isn’t part of the “Services” under your master subscription agreement with Salesforce. Use this feature at your sole discretion, and make your purchase decisions only on the basis of generally available products and features. Salesforce doesn’t guarantee general availability of this feature within any particular time frame or at all, and we can discontinue it at any time. This feature is for evaluation purposes only, not for production use. It’s offered as is and isn’t supported, and Salesforce has no liability for any harm or damage arising out of or in connection with it. All restrictions, Salesforce reservation of rights, obligations concerning the Services, and terms for related Non-Salesforce Applications and Content apply equally to your use of this feature.

How: Search filtering for communities is on by default in your Salesforce org. From Setup, in the Object Manager, go to Search Layouts for each object you want to filter. Add the fields that users want to filter to the Search Results layout. Supported field types are checkbox, phone number, picklist, text, and URL. You can’t filter encrypted fields.

Once you’ve set up search filtering on an object-by-object basis, you can enable it on a community-by-community basis. Select the Allow search result filtering checkbox in a community’s Global Search Results component properties.

Then, your community members can narrow search results by selecting a supported object on the left side of the search results page and then applying filters.

Note

Note

You can’t have different search filtering criteria for your internal org and external communities. Whichever fields you choose for filtering in your internal org also show up in your communities if external users have access to those fields.
