Detect Duplicates Across Contacts and Leads Using Standard Rules
Do your sales reps create leads for contacts that are already in
Salesforce, or the reverse? Two standard duplicate rules make it simpler to detect contacts
and leads that duplicate each other.
This change applies to Lightning Experience,
Salesforce Classic, and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile
app.

If your org was created before Summer ’17, your default duplicate rules for contacts and leads
each match only duplicates on the same object. However, additional rules that match duplicates
across objects are available to activate in Setup.
In orgs created in Summer ’17 or later, the matching rules on standard contact and lead
duplicate rules already match duplicates across objects.
