Explore Data from Multiple Datasets in a Single Lens

Sometimes the data you want to explore and visualize reside in different datasets. Don’t let that stop you from drilling into your data. You can now combine multiple datasets in a lens and discover insights about your business faster.

Where: This feature is available in Einstein Analytics in Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic. Einstein Analytics is available in Developer Edition and for an extra cost in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions.

Why: Previously, you had to use SAQL functions to simultaneously access multiple datasets in explorer. Now you can load datasets with just a few clicks, analyze the results, and create visualizations from the combined datasets.

For example, let’s say you want to find out all opportunities with accounts generating more than $500,000 revenue. Load the Opportunities and Accounts datasets into a lens, and explore the data to identify these opportunities.

How: To explore data from multiple datasets, on the Home page, click the primary dataset for your exploration. In the SAQL mode, click Add New Dataset. From the Select a Dataset dialog box, choose the secondary dataset, and run the query. Repeat this process if you want to combine more datasets.

When working with multiple datasets, you can use XMD to customize the formatting for only the primary dataset in the lens. You can rearrange and show or hide the fields of the secondary datasets, but you can’t customize their formatting using XMD.
