Create Tomorrow’s Reports Today with the Lightning Report Builder (Beta)

The future is now: Turn on the Lightning report builder and give your users a powerful, intuitive tool for analyzing Salesforce data. Group, filter, and summarize records to answer business questions like “How much revenue did we generate in the South East last quarter?”, “Which lead source is generating the most closed opportunities?”, and “What is the average age of all open cases?” This feature is new in Lightning Experience.
Creating a Report in the Lightning Report Builder

Enable the Lightning report builder from Setup. In the Quick Find box, enter Reports and Dashboards Settings and click Reports and Dashboards Settings. Select Enable Lightning Report Builder (Beta), then click Save. Finally, assign people the user permission Report Builder (Lightning Experience).

Lightning report builder is only available in orgs using enhanced folder sharing. If your org was created after the Summer ’13 Salesforce release, you already have enhanced folder sharing. If your org isn’t already using enhanced folder sharing, see Turn On Enhanced Sharing for Reports and Dashboards in the Salesforce Help.

The Lightning report builder is only available in Lightning Experience. Your users can launch the Lightning report builder by clicking New Report on the Reports tab or editing an existing report. Permissions granting, users can edit reports with both report builders. To access the Salesforce Classic report builder in Lightning Experience, click New Report (Salesforce Classic) or Edit (Salesforce Classic). You can edit all reports in both builders and view them in both Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.

Differences Between the Lightning and Classic Report Builders
Take note of these differences between the Lightning and Classic report builders.
Feature Difference
Report Formats In the Salesforce Classic report builder, you must choose a report format before grouping data.

In the Lightning report builder, the report format automatically updates as you group report data. Tabular, summary, and matrix reports are all available, but you don’t select the format before grouping the data.

Charts The Lightning report builder features the same charts as the report-view-page in Lightning Experience.
Customizing Granularity when Grouping by Date Fields When grouping records by a date field, you can’t customize date granularity.

For example, on the Opportunity report type, grouping by the Date Closed field always groups records by day, and Month Closed always groups records by month.
