Chart Enhancements for Dashboards in Lightning Experience

Visualizing business data is understanding business data, so we’ve improved dashboard charts to help you see it better. These changes apply to Lightning Experience only.

Where: These changes are available in Lightning Experience in Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

Why: Here’s why you’ll love the chart enhancements to dashboards.

Show Chatter Photos on Horizontal Bar Charts
Horizontal bar charts are another excellent way to visualize leaderboards. Now, add a touch a personality to them by showing Chatter photos!

See Astro in Dashboard Table Components
In the Add Component preview pane, when configuring a component to show Chatter photos, you now see Astro as a placeholder for peoples’ Chatter photos. Once you save and refresh the dashboard, you’ll see everyone’s Chatter photos.

Set Display Units in Dashboard Charts
Choose how to display values in dashboard charts by setting the Display Units. Shortened Number automatically chooses a unit appropriate for your data and abbreviates it. Whole number displays the actual values. Other options are Hundreds, Thousands, Millions, Billions, and Trillions. Choose what makes most sense for your data.

Lightning tables, the dashboard component, don’t support setting custom display units.

Report charts don’t support setting custom display units.

Show Values on Line Charts
See the values of peaks and valleys on line charts without hovering. Just select Show Values.

Showing values is not supported on multiple line charts.

Multiple Line Charts in Dashboards Are Easier to Read
In dashboards, on line charts with two or more lines, the space beneath lines is no longer filled with color. Line charts with only one line still color-in area beneath the line.

In reports, multiple line charts always color-in the area beneath lines.

Axis Titles Wrap
In dashboard components, but not in report charts, axis titles now wrap onto a second line before truncating.
Dashboard Table Components Look Like the Report Run Page
For consistency between reading data in reports and dashboard tables, we’ve made dashboard tables better resemble reports.
See Currency Symbols like $, ¥, and € in Charts and Tables
Is that $100 or ¥100? When values are measured in currencies like dollars, yen, or euros, chart values now display a currency symbol.

Report charts do not display currency symbols.

Bar Charts Now Respect Sort Order in Second-Level Groups
Previously, bar charts respected sort order in first-level groups, but not second. Now, sort order is respected in both groups.
