Convert Old Notes to Lightning Experience with the Salesforce API

Want users to edit notes found in the Notes & Attachments related list in Lightning Experience? Using the Salesforce API, you can copy old notes from the Notes & Attachments related list to the Notes related list in Lightning Experience, where users can view and edit them. This change applies to Lightning Experience, Salesforce Classic, and all versions of the Salesforce1 mobile app.

User Permissions Needed
To convert notes to Lightning Experience with the Salesforce API: Set Audit Fields Upon Creation
  1. Copy the contents of Note records (Body and Title fields) into new ContentNote records.
  2. Set the owner, created date, and last modified date on the ContentNote records to match the copied Note records.
  3. Add the Notes related list to page layouts.

Copied notes appear in the Notes related list and Notes tab in Lightning Experience, where users can view and edit them. They also remain in the Notes & Attachments related list.
