Track Time with the New Time Field Type (Pilot)

Sometimes you require a time of day that is not specific to a single date, or you want to compare times of the day to calculate a duration. The Time type tracks time or indicates date-independent time. The Time type is useful for time management, event planning, and project management. You can use it to indicate business hours, preferred contact times, repeated event times, like a hotel check-in time, or track a call waiting time.

We provide access to the Time type to selected customers through a pilot program that requires agreement to specific terms and conditions. To be nominated to participate in the program, contact Salesforce. Pilot programs are subject to change, and we can’t guarantee acceptance. This feature isn’t generally available unless or until Salesforce announces its general availability in documentation or in press releases or public statements. The Time type is essentially a timestamp without the date included. You can select the Time field type when you create a new custom field.

Be aware of these behaviors when using the Time type.

The Time type uses a 24-hour notation.
You can display time in HH:MM, for example, 14:40.
Time values are not localized or associated with a time zone. For example, if you enter 15:00, for 3 pm, all users see the same value.
