Home Page Profile Assignments No Longer Editable for Classic Apps That Are Visible in Lightning

As part of delivering the feature to assign default Home pages by app, we changed the configurability of custom Lightning Home page assignments for users working in Classic apps that are visible in Lightning Experience. If you had custom Lightning Home page profile assignments prior to Spring ’19, your users continue to see the profile-based Home pages that they expect when working in Classic apps that are visible in Lightning Experience. However, the Home page profile assignments for those Classic apps are now read-only, so you can no longer modify them.

Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in Essentials, Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions. This change applies only to Classic apps marked as visible in Lightning.

Why: If you want to modify the custom Lightning Home page profile assignments for your Lightning-enabled Classic apps, you must upgrade them to Lightning apps.

If you upgrade your Classic apps before Spring ’19 is deployed to your org, we will automatically update your existing custom Lightning Home page assignments to work with your Classic apps.

If you upgrade your Classic apps after Spring ’19 is deployed to your org, you must apply the existing Home page profile assignments to the upgraded app yourself. We added a checkbox to the app upgrade dialog that lets you do this.

If you choose not to upgrade a Classic app visible in Lightning Experience, your users see the Home pages that were assigned to their profiles in Winter ‘19 when working in that app. The profile assignments for the non-upgraded apps remain read-only. If you create a new Lightning-enabled Classic app during or after Spring ’19, users in those apps will continue to see the Winter ’19 custom Lightning Home page assigned to their profile.

How: To upgrade a Classic app and migrate its Home page profile assignments, navigate to the App Manager in Setup, click Action dropdown for a Classic app, and select Upgrade. In the upgrade dialog, select Apply existing Home page profile assignments.Profile assignment checkbox on app upgrade modal

This checkbox is available until the Summer ’19 release. After Summer ’19 rolls out, any Classic app that is upgraded to Lightning must have its Home page assignments set manually.
