Capture Data Changes for Field Type Conversions

A change event or gap event is generated when a custom field type conversion causes a data change. Previously, those changes were not captured.

Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions.

How: For example, a conversion between incompatible field types causes field data to be set to null in the corresponding records. The conversion generates a change event for all affected records. The following are a few conversions of incompatible fields.

  • Changing a Date or Date/Time field to another field type and vice versa
  • Changing a Checkbox field to another field type
  • Changing a Picklist (Multi-Select) field to another field type

Other conversions, such as those that preserve or truncate field values, don’t generate events.
